Areas of Giving

While the Harold McAlister Charitable Foundation primarily focuses on healthcare and education, it also supports social services, animal welfare, arts & culture, and environmental protection. The Foundation is committed to growing and evolving along with its grantee-partners, listening carefully and staying attuned to the realities faced by those it seeks to serve.

Healthcare

CHILDREN'S BURN FOUNDATION. Provides medical services to burn victims.

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES. Full service hospital focused on children and medical research.

COTTAGE HEALTH SYSTEM. Full service hospital.

MALLORY’S LEGACY FUND. Supports research projects and clinical trials that address antimicrobial resistance with a specific focus on phage therapy.

ST. JOHN’S CANCER INSTITUTE. Supports a team of scientists and clinicians dedicated to cancer research, patient care, and oncological education & training in the form of fellowships.

BEVERLY HILLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION. Raises funds to supplement public funding of education and to continue special programs .

SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION OF SANTA BARBARA. Grants scholarships to Santa Barbara County students to help pay for their higher education.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY. Research university.

CHILDREN’S INSTITUTE, INC. Supports children & families in achieving emotional well-being & educational success.

HEARTS THERAPEUTIC EQUESTRIAN CENTER. Employs equine-assisted services to inspire, strengthen, and motivate people of all ages and capabilities.

Animal Welfare

NATIONAL DISASTER SEARCH DOG FOUNDATION. Rescues & recruits dogs and partners them with firefighters & other first responders to serve on disaster rescue missions.

SANTA BARBARA HUMANE. Animal welfare agency that provides low-cost veterinary care, vaccines, and spay/neuter; affordable and humane dog training classes; pet adoption; and animal rehoming services.

WESTSIDE GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE. Dog rescue and adoption organization in Los Angeles that does not euthanize.

Arts & Culture

CASA DEL HERRERO. Historic house museum and garden that maintains National Historic Landmark status and is open to the visiting public.

INNER CITY ARTS. Provides art programs for underserved youth.

LOBERO THEATRE FOUNDATION. Maintains and operates the historic Lobero Theatre as a performing arts center and cultural asset to the community of Santa Barbara.

MOXI. Ignites learning through interactive experience in science & creativity available to the public.

CATALINA ISLAND CONSERVANCY. Preserves and protects the native plants and animals, and biotic communities of Santa Catalina Island through conservation, education & recreation.
